In a competitive job market, finding job vacancies can be very difficult. While the number of jobs available within your chosen industry may appear to be going down, the number of applicants for every single job may well be going up.
Obviously this makes finding work even more difficult and even more competitive. Locating suitable vacancies, however, is the first step, and the more you are able to find and apply for, the better chance you will have of securing employment.
One option would be to spend time looking in job posting and classifieds in local and regional newspapers. If you are in a position where you are willing to move to where the work is, consider looking further afield. Search newspapers within other states and cities. Every single day there will be numerous job postings and adverts available for you to browse through.
Take time to go and visit your local unemployment office. They will interview you and will be able to identify what your main strengths are and what your skills are. They will talk to you about your education, your level of experience, and your career aspirations. From here they will then be able to help you to identify potential job postings in and around the local area.
You can do the same thing by signing up with recruitment specialists. Before looking for suitable specialists you should consider the specific industries that you would like to work in. You can then find recruitment agencies that specialize in providing staff within these industries. Find as many relevant agencies as possible and go in an interview with them. They will then work full time to help you find relevant vacancies.
You can also apply directly over the Internet. Again, you should consider specific industries that you would want to work in, and then should look for some of the larger companies that operate within those industries. Generally you will find that larger companies have more positions that they are recruiting for. You may be able to apply over the Internet through an online application process, or may need to sending your resume alongside a covering letter.
Look at online job boards as well. Job boards will post all sorts of different job vacancies in all sorts of different industries. Spend some time looking at both local job boards, regional job boards, and national job boards, depending upon how far you are willing to go to find work.
