Solar Panels 101 – How to Convert Solar Energy to Household Electricity

Solar panels are used to convert the solar energy into electricity using photovoltaic cells. The word solar panel is also used casually for a small photo-voltaic module fitted to the roof of your house. You can install several small solar panels on your roof if you want to use electricity generated from renewable energy sources. As electricity costs continue to rise, more people are installing solar panels to generate electricity for their home use.

This type of energy conversion uses photovoltaic cells, also called solar panels, to absorb the sun’s rays and transform them into electricity using a process known as the photoelectric effect. When sunlight hits the photovoltaic cells, it causes them to produce electricity. Photoelectric effect is important because electricity is useful only when it is run through something that uses electric charges; in this case, photovoltaic cells are the solution. Photovoltaic cells are the major part of solar panels.

Solar power can be used to provide both AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) electricity to your household. AC electricity uses one side of the cell’s positive charge, while DC electricity uses the opposite side. AC electricity can be used to run many different household appliances, but it can’t be directly used to power your house. To do this, solar panels need to have a source of constant direct current (DC). DC electricity can be supplied by your home’s electrical system, or it can be supplied by an alternate power grid.

When sunlight hits the photovoltaic cells, it causes them to release photons. Photons are the particles that make light. The number of photons that come out determines how much electricity will be produced. If more photons come out than volts, then your photovoltaic cells produce more electricity. If fewer photons come out than volts, then fewer photons are produced, and your solar panels won’t produce any electricity at all.

Many people who are unfamiliar with solar energy prefer to use the passive methods to convert solar energy to household electricity. Passive photovoltaic cells are made of just about any material that can absorb the sun’s heat and light. Examples of materials that can absorb the sun’s heat include concrete and metal, both of which can effectively heat your house. Wood is another example of a material that can absorb a lot of heat, but the wood has to be extremely dry. Otherwise, mold can grow on it, and this can eventually cause damage to your home’s structure.

To build solar panels, you will need to find a supplier that sells solar cells. Once you know which type of solar cells your supplier sells, you can order them online. Once you receive the cells, all you have to do is assemble them into a solar panel.
